Merrill Client Associate Busted in Cocaine Sting in NYC
At least one Merrill Lynch team is down a client associate after a and many of its customers.
The Merrill associate, Christopher Dodson, was one of 18 customers indicted as part of a sting operation that also netted the chief marketing executive at Chipotle and a producer for Maria Bartiromo’s show on Fox Business, .
Dodson was the among the indicted, allegedly making 18 purchases for more than $7,600 between January 25, 2016, and May 25, 2016, according to the indictment.
The drug was delivered throughout Manhattan, with many of the sales taking place in delis and Duane Reade and CVS pharmacies, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., and New York City Police Commissioner William J. Bratton said in announcing the bust. While they focused on nabbing trafficking ringleader Kenny Hernandez, they said arresting buyers also sends an important message. “We are dedicated to stemming both the supply and demand for dangerous narcotics, and the crime that accompanies the market for illegal drugs,” Vance said in a prepared statement.
Dodson, who joined Merrill Lynch’s Manhattan East location four months ago, could not be reached at the office but is expected back on tuesday according to a receptionist who answered the phone. A Merrill spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment on his status with the firm.
When Dodson’s lawyer objected to setting bail at $30,000 bond or $7,500 in cash, levels typical of major felonies, Justice Edward McLaughlin said, “He has so much money, I’m sure he’ll be able to post,” according to an account of the defendant’s’ arraignment hearings in The New York Post.
Dodson, 29, was in good company. Also indicted as customers were Katie Welnhofer, a Fox Business producer, and Mark Crumpacker, the chief creative and development officer at Chipotle.
